Lakshmi

Lakshmi is primarily a vocalist and a songwriter. Her many influences include R&B, Pop, Americana, Gospel and Jazz as well as many world traditions such as East Indian singing, & Middle Eastern Rhythms. She also plays Harmonium, rhythm guitar and hand percussion. Her Bachelor of Arts degree in Ethnomusicology lends itself to her music’s world influence.  Her music is best understood by its spontaneous aspect, and her immersion in the tradition of Indian chanting called “Kirtan” is a great platform for this spontaneity to be expressed. Her original songs with english lyrics describe the vulnerability and power of a soul's journey through an embodied human life. 

 

Lakshmi’s music background includes producing original music concerts, playing at festivals, yoga studios, and private home ceremonies such as wedding proposals, baby showers, at the bedside of ailing loved ones, & memorials. She is hired as a lead singer for many events and projects and also appears regularly as a guest artist and studio musician for various musicians and bands such as: renowned world musicians, Jai Uttal, Krishna Das, and local projects such as The 415s and The Lucky Devils Band. She is also known as one of the founding members of the west coast popular original music singing trio “Kali’s Angels,” along with Suzanne Sterling and Amy Carr.

As well as live performing, songwriting, and recording, Lakshmi currently spends her musical time teaching in a variety of capacities. She runs a Creativity Mentorship program called "Radiant Voice" and sees private vocal students online. She sings and teaches children's music through Music Together and is also for hire for Birthday parties and preschools. (See more info under the Lil Bird​ tab). Lakshmi is also on faculty teaching adults at Globe Institutes Sound Healing certification program in Sausalito. (currently all classes are online)
